"Based on the weather forecast from the day before, the calm misty conditions on this particular morning were quite unexpected. I quickly changed my plans for the start of the day and headed to the shores of Derwent Water to make the most of the photogenic conditions around the landing stages at the northern end of the lake. I wore Wellingtons so that I had the option of wading into the shallow waters along the lake shore, increasing my compositional possibilities. Standing in the lake a few metres from the shoreline, I could use the reflection in the waters of the lake as a simple but effective foreground element. If I had been any closer to the shoreline the bottom of the lake would have been visible through the lake surface, spoiling the overall effect. I think this relatively featureless foreground helps to add atmosphere to the photograph, emphasising the serene conditions on this glorious misty autumn morning." |
