Landscape Photographer of the Year

"The village of Portnahaven lies at the south-western tip of the Hebridean island of Islay. The white-washed houses that line the harbour here provide an attractive subject for photography at any time of day. On this particular day, I waited until the last hour of sunlight when the rays of the setting sun bathed the buildings in a wonderful warm golden light. I was lucky that this coincided with a time when there were not any parked cars along the road; the last vehicle had only driven off minutes earlier!"

This photograph was one of the commended entries in the 'Urban View' category of the 'Take a View' Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. It was awarded a place in the awards book (available from AA Publishing) and appeared as an exhibition print at London's National Theatre. Packhorse Track, Loch Maree Dawn, and Path to Pen y Fan are commended entries from other years of the same competition.
