"A good landscape photograph is often achieved by using techniques to simplify the overall appearance of a scene and emphasize a small number of key elements. In this shot I have tried to realize this goal of simplicity. The calm weather conditions were already on my side on this particular day, helping to allow simplification through the symmetry of a reflection. I used a 'big stopper' for a long exposure of over 3 minutes to remove the detail from the slowly moving clouds overhead and the cool dawn light has produced simplicity through a relatively small colour palette."
