"Planning photography at dawn usually involves a promising weather forecast from the day before. The forecast, from the previous day to this shot, was predicting a slow moving front arriving from the north west at around dawn. This promised some ideal conditions for photography the next morning. I'd visited this particular spot previously and knew the clouds associated with the approaching front were likely to lie in a good position in this composition from this spot. As I'd hoped, at dawn the clear skies to the south east of the front allowed the clouds overhead to be painted a rich red colour by the rising sun."
